First 'Time Crystal' Built Using Google's Quantum Computer | Quanta ...
Like a perpetual motion machine, a time crystal forever cycles between states without consuming energy. Physicists claim to have built this new phase of matter inside a quantum computer. Jul 30, 2021 ... A novel phase of matter that physicists have strived to realize for many years, a time crystal is an object whose parts move in a regular, ... [ReadMore..]
Boundary Time Crystals
In this work we introduce boundary time crystals. Here continuous time-translation symmetry breaking occurs only in a macroscopic fraction of a many-body quantum system. After introducing their definition and properties, we analyze in detail a solvable model where an accurate scaling analysis can be performed. The existence of the boundary time crystals is intimately connected to the emergence of a time-periodic steady state in the thermodynamic limit of a many-body open quantum system. We also discuss connections to quantum synchronization. Jul 16, 2018 ... In this work we introduce boundary time crystals. Here continuous time-translation symmetry breaking occurs only in a macroscopic fraction ... [ReadMore..]

A new, more robust approach to creating these bizarre constructs brings them one step closer to practical applications Mar 9, 2022 ... This counterintuitive concept is the basis of “time crystals,” quantum systems that exhibit crystal-like predictably repetitive behavior. [ReadMore..]
Time Crystals: The Search For A New Phase Of Matter – Physics World
Pedram Roushan, from Google’s Quantum AI team, describes this elusive form of matter – and how it could be simulated on the company’s Sycamore quantum processor Apr 4, 2022 ... To exclude such cases, we define time crystals as “isolated systems of many interacting particles that show oscillations indefinitely”. The ... [ReadMore..]
Classical Time Crystals
We consider the possibility that classical dynamical systems display motion in their lowest-energy state, forming a time analogue of crystalline spatial order. Challenges facing that idea are identified and overcome. We display arbitrary orbits of an angular variable as lowest-energy trajectories for nonsingular Lagrangian systems. Dynamics within orbits of broken symmetry provide a natural arena for formation of time crystals. We exhibit models of that kind, including a model with traveling density waves. Bending The Laws Of Physics: Time Crystals “Impossible” But Obey ...
Time crystals were long believed to be impossible because their perpetual motion would seem to defy the laws of physics. However, using quantum physics scientists have not only created time crystals, but they have also now shown that they have the potential to power useful devices in the future. 5 days ago ...
